Maidenhead Family Garden

Description

Our clients, who have two children and a strong interest in gardening, especially growing vegetables, asked us to design a garden to cover all their activities, including socialising, a playground and an area for growing herbs and vegetables. We divided their long garden visually into three distinct spaces. The seating area was expanded, and installed a raised flower bed and two sail shades, as well as a venetian fence, to enhance the architectural quality of the main seating area. Two smaller seating areas have been made by the pond, a patio and a suspended deck. The feature complex in the middle of the garden acts as a focal point and as a soft visual barrier to hide the play area equipment. This central area has raised beds, venetian cladding, a waterfall and a contemporary shelf for stacking logs. The vegetable beds are made with solid oak sleepers of varied height, both to create interesting forms and to allow for vegetables that need differing soil depth.
